The Jump Stop in Basketball

After mastering the triple threat position, you must learn how to get into the jump stop position during a game. You may need it just after running, rebounding, or making a play. In the game of basketball, getting into the desired position at the correct time is half the work done. Even if you can move swiftly and have enough accuracy to throw the ball into the basket, you may not benefit from these qualities if you are not able to stop properly and at proper time.
Imagine yourself running down the court to set up a play and having to stop at once. Will you just stop running and then get into the position? But this will take more time. The proper way is that you stop with a

jump. Your positioning and stop takes place in one single action, without any kind of hassles or time waste. You actually get more time and better control over the ball and your own body.

For a proper jump stop, both your feet hit the floor at the same time and your weight goes right to the balls of your feet. Be careful, don’t try to stop on your heels because your momentum will carry you forward and you may skid and lose balance. This will further restrict you from moving or pivoting quickly. In fact, the jump stop allows you to choose which foot to pivot on. If you land on one foot before the other, you are stuck and cannot pivot the other way. Remember, after the jump stop you should maintain the triple threat position for further action.
